The Leiston Works Railway is proud to announce that it will be re-opening the Leiston Works Railway line for rail traffic on the 1st and 2nd of June 2019. We were hoping to secure the services of a steam locomotive for the event but due to circumstances beyond our control, this has not been possible. Instead, the honour of being the first loco to operate on the Works line in over fifty years will fall to an 0-4-0 Ruston 48 diesel shunter. We invite you all to join us in the celebration of the 160th anniversary of the railway arriving at Leiston and in the grand opening of a section of the Works line.
Entrance to the railway: at the junction of Buller Road onto Station Road. IP16 4HA. Other attractions also at the Waterloo Centre, Waterloo Avenue, Leiston. IP16 4HF. Opening times 10.30 – 16.30 both days.
Admission Adults £5.00. Children Free. Free car parking.
Arrangements are liable to change at any time so please check with our Facebook pages for the most up-to-date news:
The Ruston 48 No.294266 is normally based at the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway – a member of the only class of diesel to operate on the old MSLR when the track was lifted.
We are grateful to the locomotive’s current owner for allowing it to come to us and for operating it.
