The Leiston Works Railway was proud to hold a re-opening of the line on the week-end of the 1st and 2nd of June 2019. We were hoping to secure the services of a steam locomotive for the event but due to circumstances beyond our control, this was not possible. Instead, the honour of being the first loco to operate on the Works line in over fifty years fell to an 0-4-0 Ruston 48 diesel shunter.
We are very grateful to Laurie Rose, the owner of the Ruston 48 No.294266 for making it available at very short notice. It is normally based at the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway – a member of the only class of diesel to operate on the old MSLR when the track was lifted.
